The “Cultural Mosaic” and Production of Urban Center in Buenos Aires

Abstract



Buenos Aires is reconverting their image of “tango and melancholy “. Immersed in own contemporary cities transformations in neoliberal capitalism, we aimed the analysis at the processes related to the visibility of multiculturalism through the government program “Buenos Aires Celebra” and practices carried out by bolivian immigrants and afro descendants in the urban center. We can concluded that cultural diversity is a key resource for the urban regeneration process of recovery downtown as well as a source of empowerment and legitimization of new subjects and groups historically stigmatized and denied; urban center being a space of dispute for the construction of power and recognition.
