Elderly Inhabitants of the Eastern Periphery of Mexico City At Gates of Exclusion and Urban Segregation

Abstract
The urban and political reforms made in Mexico City in recent years are still far from achieving its objectives, particularly in relation to poor urban periphery. The elderly inhabitants of these areas daily face multiple social disadvantages; these conditions exceed age or health related matters and are produced by dynamics like isolation, lack of social security, lack of resources and inadequate urban planning, among others. This article analyzes the exclusion and urban segregation that the elderly inhabitants of the eastern periphery of the city live, as well as the practices implemented within the framework of a specific social program.
