El sistema de bicicletas públicas “Ecobici” del cambio modal al cambio social

Abstract

Understanding modal shifts in urban travel behaviour is crucial to finding sustainable alternatives that will enable cities to make the transition toward healthier and more environmentallyfriendly lifestyles. In this paper we analyse the impact of the public bike-sharing system “Ecobici” in several areas of Mexico City regarding both the local environment and the lifestyles of the users. What are the obstacles to changing travel behaviour? How can such change be induced in a context of consolidating public policies promoting bicycle use and non-motorized mobility?
