Main Article Content
Abstract
Progressively and through multiple electoral reforms, Mexico has developed a conglomerate of institutions and norms that allow us to have more competitive, trustful and just elections. However, this democratic improvement has not been uniform on the whole country, varying from state to state. Highlighting this fact, the present article focuses on Mexico City and will analyze its electoral legislation, emphasizing on two nodal aspects: a) the resulting changes on the electoral competition; and b) the impact of this legislation over electoral authorities, especially on their autonomy. The article analyzes the political context on which the electoral reform was made and upholds that far from improving democracy, changes were result of power struggles between the political actors involved.
