Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the role of urban form in the closing of some residential complexes as gated communities, and to characterize the degree of residential segregation by their social and housing profiles. In this analysis we treat the hypothesis that the gated communities are expressions of a spatial strategy which seeks control by distance and proximity with others social groups, and by the location and the urban form producing a segregated landscapes. The results of the analysis confirm the effects of these practices. The study analyzes the urban form of two cities: Mexico City and Toulouse.
