Abstract

At present, different activities compete for the space of peasants and indigenous people. Different projects and policies prioritize profit generation and activities that favor the process of capital accumulation, e.g., agribusiness. Coupled with it, there are different problems that affect the varied dimensions of life in the peasant and indigenous territories. At the same time, elements of social and cultural importance –such as native maizes–are lost because they do not fall within the economic standards and the development model. This text will present the importance of the territorial perspective from a geographic point of view in order to analyze the threats that hinder the protection of native maize. This constitutes a
fundamental first step to create public policies that operate in favor of the needs of peasants and indigenous people.
