Abstract

After a long period of twenty years of public debate and political turmoil, the New International Airport is being built in
Mexico. The aim of this presentation is to analyze the process through which the political decision of building The New
International Airport was made and determine the role of the territorial planning in the current scenario. The main argument
remains in the idea that the land-use planning had a marginal place in the decision, as it has only been useful to justify what in
politics has been decided, out of every technical, regulatory, and economic environment. The general framework of analysis
is created from a deductive logic, meanwhile a historical path is made to identify the routes of the political decision. As
preliminary conclusions the following are considered: the political ideology was the main variable over the territorial, social,
environmental, and economic consideration. The decision is a demonstration of strength over any technical decision and
democratic principles.
