Abstract

This article explores the state of knowledge around the collective housing projects in Mexico City, so asto update the
research on this type of housing and its inhabitants in the context of what is understood today by neoliberal city. Under
this framework, it is possible to observe that the problems currently present in housing projects are the result of gradual
institutional abandonment, leaving the inhabitants to face, solve or rectify their needs by themeselves. In this sense, the
inhabitants of middleclass housing units are the ones who manage to deal with the daily necessities that arise from this type
of housing, but not those living in popular housing units who lack the economic, social and cultural capital necessary to solve
such imperatives.
