Abstract

From a qualitative approach, based on the analysis of documents, the semi-structured interview and the non-participant
observation, and using case study research, this investigation comprises two phase, whose field work findings correspond
to 2012 and those of documentary analysis to the period 2012-2016. The study has three objectives: (i) to analyze the
construction and production of space in the global-local relationship and its resistance, to know its influence on the local
transformations of democracy and citizenship in some of Mexico’s local spaces; (ii) to study the process of analysis from
the local to the global, based on local experience and, in particular, on the municipalities of traditional customs and, finally,
(iii) examine how the indigenous municipality becomes the local space for reconstruction of the democratic citizenship
influenced by the global. Among our findings is the fact that there are changes in citizenship and democracy through the incorporation of human rights and the participation of women in local public offices and changes in customs, lifestyles and
values, which incorporate the global.
