Abstract

I hereby discuss an intertwining of history-writing, daily chores by museum professionals, and certain usages of the city by citizens and their government in Mexico circa 1790-1950. Such an argument entails a grammar for the Mexican nation as it was narrated by historians in the 19th century, a mise-enscene for the National Museum, and a lesson for every inhabitant of the country. As case study for this chapter sequence, curatorial jobs and usages of the city’s space, three pre-Columbian monuments have been selected.
