Abstract

The article analyzes tensions inherent to social production of urban space in Mexico City as well as debates and controversies that are taking place by an expressway construction: “Supervia Poniente”. It explores on the one hand, the way in which the authorities are operat-ing to appropriate private and public spaces; and on the other, it approaches to social re-sistant practices that opposes the project. The study seeks to provide tools for the analysis of another macro projects that are being built in the city under similar patterns, mainly related to urban planning and privatization of public spaces.
